The next media economy - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

The following media economy - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Ive been considering how we purchase and expend media (music, motion pictures, TV, books, news, computer games, sports, and so forth.) and however its a long ways from the customary subjects on this blog, and Im almost certain that none of this is new, heres my take. Its a quite significant inquiry. For a certain something, the media business is tremendous. We spend a LOT of cash on amusement. Yet, significantly more critically, media of different sorts is the place we get the vast majority of our accounts. A lot of our view of the world is formed by the media we access and how we get to them. So media matters. The large move that were seeing right currently is obviously because of the web. All media are progressively being liberated from physical limitations. You no longer need the physical CD, DVD, TV radio wire or paper book. You can get everything on one gadget: Your PC. I know, I know, its totally self-evident, yet hold on for me. I cannot state precisely what the following media plan of action will resemble, yet I despite everything figure we can express a few things about it. This is kinda similar to one of those scientific confirmations, where we dont know the real arrangement yet, yet we can at present express a few things about it. So I anticipate that any future media economy should satisfy the accompanying measures so as to make progress: No qualification among gushing and downloading The qualification between gushing media to a PC and downloading it to that PC is basically deceptive and all endeavors to implement that division are non-sensical and destined to fall flat. I realize that the proprietors of substance feel more secure with spilling, in light of the fact that that permits the fo feel that they despite everything own the substance, however once the bits have gone through a PC, its the proprietors decision whether they stay on that PC. Witness the few devices accessible that can take eg. a realmedia stream and spare it to the PC. Simple to share When I have the media on my PC, they should be anything but difficult to share among gadgets and between individuals. In the event that I download music, I need to have the option to play it in my vehicle, on my pocket mp3 player, on my sound system, in my late spring home and on my get-away. I likewise need to play it when visiting a companion. Or on the other hand at a gathering. Sitting at my companions PC, I need to have the option to call up the digital book Im at present perusing and go over a segment of it with her. On the train on my approach to work, I need to see the scene of my preferred TV-show that I missed the previous evening. Rises above media brands The succesful framework will rise above brands. There wont be a Disney framework and a Sony framework. There will be only the one framework, from which I access and buy media. Less expensive The succesful framework will likewise be less expensive than whats accessible today. Estimated on utilization not get to At the point when I purchase a CD today, I take it home and put it on the rack with the others. I can play it at whatever point I need, yet Im basically paying to approach it. Apples iTunes and most current online music locales work similarly, then again, actually you purchase singular tunes as opposed to entire collections. I foresee that the succesful framework will rather put together evaluating with respect to utilization. That it will make a large number of CDs accessible to me, however will charge me as indicated by the amount I really devour. Offers a larger number of alternatives than the old model Whatever I can do with physical media I can likewise do in the new framework. This is in opposition to numerous online media contributions where you can really do less. For example, in the event that I purchase a CD I can take it with me any place I proceed to sell it or part with it. The answer for the media business at that point, isn't of a mechanical sort. It is anything but a matter of finding the privilege tough encryption to implement current copyrights. Its a matter of finding another plan of action, and that plan of action should satisfy whats composed previously. Why? All things considered, that is extremely basic: The following media plan of action will from its very initiation be in rivalry with a framework that is as of now rather succesful, is continually developing and which offers the entirety of the abovementioned. This is obviously the shadow economy. Privateers, Kazaa-clients, bit-deluge customers and different downloaders. These frameworks are utilized by a huge number of individuals, utilize basically no publicizing and still figure out how to develop out of control. I anticipate that theres an immense heap of cash to be produced using this new plan of action. It should be made uniquely in contrast to today yet its there none the less. A debt of gratitude is in order for visiting my blog. In case you're new here, you should look at this rundown of my 10 most well known articles. 6 Ways Pushing Past Your Comfort Zone Elevates You To The Next Level - Kathy Caprino

6 Ways Pushing Past Your Comfort Zone Elevates You To The Next Level As a ladies' vocation mentor and authority engineer, I've seen that one of the most harming things you can do in your profession is to remain for a considerable length of time where you're agreeable. I've done it, and what frequently results is that you start to question your incentive in the commercial center. You wonder in the event that you truly have the capacities and experience to succeed and flourish outside your present business. I've adapted as well (the most difficult way possible) that no activity is secure. The main thing that is secure in life is you â€" your soul, your heart, your abilities and blessings, and your capacity to contribute at an elevated level to something that issues to you throughout everyday life. At the point when you live from that information and experience, you'll find (and make) profitable, remunerating work regardless of where you go, in spite of the choppiness around you. What's more, to do that, you have to persistently propel yourself out of your customary range of familiarity. I as of late associated with David Van Rooy, Walmart's Senior Director of International Human Resources Strategy and Operations, who shared his smart perspectives about propelling yourself out of solace as a basic profession achievement move. David is liable for working over Walmart's non-US markets to create and drive the execution of the worldwide HR procedure. In his earlier job at Walmart he was answerable for the world's biggest exhibition the board and representative commitment programs, covering about 2.2 million workers all around. Before Walmart he held positions of authority at Marriott International and Burger King Corporation. David has a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and has distributed more than 20 companion audited logical business articles and book parts. His book, Trajectory: 7 Career Strategies To Take You From Where You Are To Where You Want To Be investigates the idea of Career Trajectory and how you can use your abilities and make additional opportunities around you to manufacture a positive way and arrive at your most significant standards. This is what David shared about the significance of pushing past your usual range of familiarity: I've found in my work at Walmart that keeping up position as the top retailer requires remaining in front of progress and a readiness to 'swim upstream.' So a lot of what everybody does at Walmart â€" regardless of whether it is the size or size of an undertaking, or propelling an altogether new thought â€" has never been finished. This can be overwhelming in light of the fact that it incorporates a component of hazard and requires individuals venturing out of their usual ranges of familiarity. The individuals who do this effectively can have a massively constructive outcome and find considerably more chances to have any kind of effect. This can make a most optimized plan of attack for quickening their profession direction. It is conceivable to be effective keeping up the norm, however obvious separation is attainable just for the individuals who are happy to plunge into new zones. I took in a lot about my own usual range of familiarity as of late. I was sitting in obscurity and couldn't see a solitary thing. My fingers were clingy and secured with food that I was unable to see. I was exceptionally awkward and absolutely in a strange spot. What's more, this was by plan. It was a piece of an occasion called Dining in the Dark, which is proposed to improve mindfulness and comprehension of visual weaknesses. In addition to the fact that it succeeded with its crucial, made me ponder my own solace levels in different circumstances â€" both at work and outside of work. I found that my common impulse at the occasion was to do what made me agreeable, not what the visually impaired individuals in participation were alright with. Be that as it may, I would miss so a lot in the event that I didn't get through my absence of solace. The occasion helped me to remember when I was constrained out of my customary range of familiarity at a basic point in my life. I was gazing at numerous dismissal letters from my favored master's level college and was starting to think about what I would do with my life on the off chance that I didn't get an offer soon. I at long last got one acknowledgment letter and it included both educational cost inclusion and a payment. There was only one issue: it was in Miami, which wasn't the place I needed to live. Experiencing childhood in Northern Michigan I had become truly OK with the tranquil life and was restless about what I would encounter when I showed up in Miami. It began more regrettable than I could have envisioned. I had no vehicle and my lone transportation â€" my bicycle â€" was taken the main week there. There were issues with my administrative work and I spent innumerable hours simply attempting to get joined up with classes. I was battling with a language obstruction and social contrasts I had not experienced previously. The bore of understudies was scaring and I didn't know how I would coordinate. It appeared as though I was unable to get anything right, and I was starting to think about whether I would last through the principal semester. Be that as it may, I worked through it and in spite of the numerous challenges I experienced â€" including a bombed introductory barrier of my postulation. I developed to adore Miami, and grasp the difficulties that accompanied it. For budgetary reasons I truly had no real option except to leave my usual range of familiarity in this circumstance, yet I can't envision what my life would resemble now on the off chance that I hadn't. I earned my Ph.D. there; met astonishing individuals, including an extraordinary coach who helped me in endless manners; got my first genuine work; met my better half. It's additionally where I discovered that keeping up solace might be simpler and more secure, however it doesn't regularly bring about what is best for you. On the off chance that you never feel awkward in your life and profession you are without a doubt constraining your chances to do more prominent things than you may never have envisioned. David shares how venturing out of your usual range of familiarity brings 6 basic advantages that will free and engage you. You will release flawlessness. No one is great â€" don't anticipate it and don't ache for it. Relinquish that superfluous weight. When you acknowledge this you will find that you will lose the wavering that has kept you down before. You will figure out how to face challenges where before you would have run. With chance comes the opportunity of disappointment, yet more critically, a possibility of enormity. Disappointment is a given when you face challenges, however the more you can grasp and gain from it, the happier you'll be over the long haul. You will move others. What you do is seen by others, regardless of whether you understand it or not. Individuals are watching you, and what you do gives them a motivating good example for development and change. This applies at work, however at home with setting a model for your youngsters. We as a whole have an instructor or somebody in our lives who unwittingly enlivened and spurred us to accomplish more than we suspected we could. Facing challenges and trusting in yourself permits you to be that individual for other people. You will have no second thoughts toward the end. To me running 26.2 miles for a long distance race appeared to be over the top and outlandish. I never had any genuine goal of running one, yet consented to offer it a chance when my sister inquired as to whether I would do one with her. I may never run another long distance race, but since I gave it my all I will never have waiting questions about my presentation. Had I kept anything down I would have been left with lament and vulnerability about what I may have had the option to do had I quite recently propelled myself. Second thoughts come when we wonder, Imagine a scenario in which? yet don't act. Try not to ponder â€" dive in. You will characterize yourself legitimately. Solace is regularly characterized by doing what every other person does â€" fitting in with standards and to the weight around you. By driving yourself into new territories you will get an opportunity to truly characterize what your identity is, and break liberated from the confinements of what others figure you ought to be. You are then far more liberated to shape your profession and your life as you genuinely need it. You will pick up control. At the point when you step out on your own way, you get the chance to live and chip away at your own terms. In the long run you might be compelled to break liberated from the restrictions around you in any case, so take control now and become the person who sets the standards and starts change. Having a feeling of individual control isn't just basic for prosperity, yet research has demonstrated that it brings down pressure and builds work fulfillment also. Your background will be more full. Those of us who've been compelled to change comprehend that what is soothing is frequently not what is best for you. Leaving your usual range of familiarity can make a gigantic sentiment of happiness and dignity as you realize what you are genuinely fit for doing and making, which is far more noteworthy and more extensive than you at any point imagined. Pushing past your cutoff points encourages you discover the satisfaction, energy, and significance you have been scanning for in all an inappropriate spots. In the event that you never leave your customary range of familiarity you are likely disrupting your odds for enduring achievement and bliss. Try not to be hesitant to have a go at something new in any part of your life. You will discover you are stronger, skilled and valiant than you once accepted, and as you adapt to the situation, additionally energizing ones are standing ready. Ask yourself, when was the last time you truly needed to take a stab at something however you stayed away? Next time you wind up dithering, pull out all the stops. The prize (and the exercises learned) will be, undoubtedly, worth the hazard. A great deal of this is an endeavor to remediate: 'I'm going to keep you at work constantly so I'm going to attempt to make that work environment somewhat more agreeable for you. Give you better lighting, some food.' But the examination shows pretty convincingly that avoidance is significantly more powerful than remediation. It would be better on the off chance that we gave you a vocation domain - including supervisors, collaborators to offer social help, and so on - so you didn't require that stuff. Why sensible individuals won't leave poisonous employments For the most part, we perceive that a vocation is terrible for us when we wake up in chilly sweats on the grounds that of it … when we have to take pills to get past another taxing day. But, such a large number of us despite everything won't leave employments that are plainly terrible for our prosperity. Why? Pfeffer says personality plays an enormous role.Ego is the voice revealing to you that on the off chance that you were any acceptable, you could endure the requests and the pressure. It's the one insulting you that losers are frail. It's the internal voice that says you could endure it one more quarter, one more year. Pfeffer talked with one General Electric official who said his managers would ask him, Aren't you sufficient to be a GE head? when he felt doubts.I think numerous capable, magnificent individuals are truly helpless to the play on the sense of self. I imagine that is the one I see utilized most much of the time and effectively, Pfeffer said. Individuals remain in any event, when they realize they ought to leave. To get away from this limited focus, Pfeffer says that we need to quit tolerating the unsatisfactory and leave harmful work circumstances, regardless of the organization distinction or how intriguing the work is to do.Be ready to concede that in picking a business, as in some other choice you make, it is conceivable to commit an error and, once having conceded that botch, to act to address it, he alerts in his book. Until individuals assume liability for discovering places where they can flourish, we can't anticipate that our bosses should esteem wellbeing, either.

Three Information Security Hazards In Your Workplace

Three Information Security Hazards In Your Workplace Three Information Security Hazards In Your Workplace Can you do your job without technology? Take away our computers and most of us would revert back to ink pens and spiral notebooks. And frankly, we probably wouldnt handle it very well. But it could get worse. Our assets are now digital assets. When businesses computer systems are breached and vital information is stolen, we have a bigger problem on our hands than missing equipment. Not only will operations come to a screeching halt; we could also be vulnerable to having confidential files exposed or to having trade secrets fall into the wrong hands. Is everyone in your organization familiar with the broad concepts behind information security in the workplace? Malware can be unintentionally downloaded when a worker installs something from an unknown source. When malware hits your servers, the effects can range from no apparent problem at all to destruction of your IT infrastructure. “Malware,” quite simply, is “malicious software” and include viruses, worms, trojans, adware and spyware. All of them perform unwanted actions on computer systems. If youre seeing pop-ups that run automatic “virus scans” telling you to buy something, or if your computer is running much slower than usual, you could have an infection. The best defense is to isolate the computer from the Internet. That probably isnt a feasible solution for a work computer, so the next-best option is to use quality anti-virus and anti-spyware applications. Inform workers about the dangers of downloading bundled “optional” programs when downloaded something else. Malware also spreads via peer-to-peer programs such as torrent sites, so avoid them at work. Breached passwords were a massive headache for the daily deal site LivingSocial early this year. 50 million passwords, names, emails and birth dates were stolen. Unintentional exposure can lead to identity theft and exposure of sensitive corporate data. A senior editor of Wired magazine says his entire digital life was ruined when hackers gained the passwords to his Apple, Twitter and Gmail accounts. The best defense is a better password. Youd be surprised how many people use the word “password” or “123456” to protect their accounts. The name of your pet, spouse or favorite band isnt much better. You need a string of numbers, letters and (if possible) other characters. Use a password generator to come up with secure passwords. And never re-use the same password for different accounts. Stolen digital equipment can mean more than the loss of hardware. A flash drive or laptop might contain business files you want to keep out of the wrong hands. Its great that we can carry around expensive business tools these days, but having them stolen could mean losing your passwords, credit card info and more. The best defense is to be careful using laptops, tablets and other hardware in public places. Dont leave computer equipment in your car, on the coffee shop table or anywhere else where it could attract the attention of thieves. Install anti-theft software that can help locate stolen devices and remotely lock them to restrict access. Make sure your data is securely backed up, so a lost laptop wont also mean lost information. Hackers, viruses and phishing emails are a nasty part of daily life at the modern office. You and everyone you work with have to be aware of the threats. Being aware is the first step toward being vigilant and taking the appropriate steps to keep personal information and business data safe and secure. Making sure your IT staff has the information assurance training it needs is vital.

Irish MEP renews call for impact studies of EUs CCCTB corporate tax plan

Irish MEP renews call for impact studies of EU’s CCCTB corporate tax plan Irish MEP renews call for impact studies of EU’s CCCTB corporate tax plan Image Source: PixabayAn Irish member of the European Parliament has reiterated his appeal for the EU to defer introducing CCCTB, the  new European common corporate taxation structure, until a country-by-country analysis is undertaken studied.Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes this week told the Irish Independent newspaper that the taxation plan was “unacceptable” in at the absence of proper studies of how member states would be affected individually. The EU describes the Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB), proposed as far back as 2011 and on the table since October 2016, as a “modern, fair and competitive corporate tax framework”; and “a single set of rules to calculate companies’ taxable profits in the EU”.If implemented, the CCCTB would see corporate taxes applied in countries where the companies sell their goods and services, rather than in the States where the companies’ regional headquarters are located, and then divided between EU countries on an agreed basis .MEP Hayes said the EU’s wish to roll out the CCCTB by the end of 2020 was, in the absence of impact assessments, “policymaking on the hoof” and “unacceptable”.The Irish MEP has written to the EU’s economic commissioner, Pierre Moscovici, calling for the state-by-state assessments. To date, Mr Hayes claimed, Mr Moscovic had been unable to tell Irish leaders how CCCTB would impact on Ireland’s tax base.In late 2016, Mr Moscovici insisted that the EU was responding to a “new world” where “people want transparency and want the multinationals to pay their fair share of tax where they take profits”.Ireland has long been opposed to CCCTB. Earlier this year, Finance Minister, Michael Noonan, said that the proposals could mean that profits taxed in Ireland could instead be apportioned to other EU States and taxed there. Minister Noonan declared to the Irish Independent that the proposal was in “breach of the OECD principles”.Commentators have observed that Irelandâ €™s opposition has usually been as part of a block of other smaller EU countries, alongside the much larger UK. Brexit has removed the UK from the equation, leaving the smaller countries exposed, as the European Commission has moved CCCTB to the centre of its priorities. In this light, MEP Hayes’s communication with the economic commissioner assumes a new urgency. He reiterates an earlier call for individual impact assessments, claiming that the European Commission had never divulged “clear and comprehensive statistics” on the impacts of the proposal. While noting Mr Moscovici’s claim that the CCCTB would result in a likely loss of 0.2 percent of Irish tax revenue, MEP Hayes said the Irish business organisation IBEC had estimated the potential loss at approximately 7.7 percent of tax revenue, or almost €4bn.

At the point when you sense that you're not in a protected spot to learn or feel defenseless, it puts you between a stone and hard spot. On one hand, in the event that you lift your hand, you hazard sounding unintelligent. On the other, you can continue attempting to make sense of everything all alone an incomprehensible undertaking that may hamper your expert development and further compound that sentiment of being outed as a cheat. Flip This: I'm Qualified to Be Here, So That Means My Question Isn't Stupid, But Rather a Smart Way for Me to Learn More You might've persuaded themselves that posing inquiries will out you as a cheat. All things considered, you can see this is obviously unreasonable and may really stunt your expert development. At the point when I've been reluctant to shout out or pose inquiries during my profession, I later understood those were botched chances to turn out to be increasingly effective and agreeable in my job. Initially, advise yourself that nobody has all the appropriate responses (and the individuals who apparently do arrived by posing inquiries) and be sufficiently serious to concede when you don't have the foggiest idea so you can request help. Next, hope to encourage an emotionally supportive network by searching out confided in associates who you feel great carrying your inquiries to. 3. You're Thinking: On the off chance that I Screw This Up, I'll Definitely Be Fired It can put on a show of being joke: In the event that I don't get this choice right, I'll be terminated and never work in the business again. When you examine the possibility of disappointment, you regularly overstate the results to the outrageous and persuade yourself that the most noticeably awful will undoubtedly occur. It's human instinct to avoid peril, yet when avoiding any and all risks turns into the bolster that keeps you from attempting by any means it constrains your latent capacity and leaves you missing the mark concerning greater vocation objectives. Flip This: I'm Qualified and Therefore I'm Allowed to Make Mistakes You're never going to be great, yet so as to move quick enough in the working scene, you need to make informed decisions. Regardless of how much schoolwork you've done, there is continually going to be some waiting apprehension when settling on a significant business choice, driving a major introduction, or sharing a significant report. Think emphatically! Somebody confides in your capacity and put you in this situation on purpose. Pause for a minute to imagine achievement, and afterward turn your concentration to the means expected to arrive. Who knows, you may astound yourself. Also, when you do commit an error, it's smarter to let it be known instead of attempt to cover it up or divert the fault. Receptiveness about when you miss the mark helps keep you grounded while making an open and inviting condition for everybody one in where committing errors and learning is viewed as a characteristic piece of expert development. By concentrating on constructive reasoning, you can turn the tables on Impostor Syndrome and all the while, understand that the main impostor you ought to be worried about is empowering self-uncertainty to let individuals think you are one.

Monday Motivation A Story of an Inspirational Woman

Monday Motivation A Story of an Inspirational Woman Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day.  Instead of just celebrating with a day off work, I would like to share a story of a woman that I saw on an Oprah  and who is a keynote speaker at a MLK Day event in Springfield.  Her name is  Tererai Trent. Meet Tererai Trent was raised in rural Zimbabwe and despite wanting to go to school, was denied an education because she was a girl.  She was forced to marry a man who beat her around age 13. Because so many people in her village are illiterate, including her parents, Trent said she doesnt know exactly how old she is because she didnt have a birth certificate.  By roughly age 18, she had three children (and eventually had six).  I was still a child myself. I remember growing up with my own children, Trent said. Trent wrote down her goals to one day earn a bachelors degree, a masters degree and her doctorate. Then she buried the list of goals under a rock near where she used to herd cattle.  On her website, Trent writes: I believed in achieving these dreams against many challenges; the rock where I buried my dreams solidified and grounded me in many ways. I knew I was at peace since I had made a pact with the rock to keep my dreams alive.  Little by little, she checked off every dream from her list. Today she has a doctorate in interdisciplinary evaluation from Western Michigan University. Why I love this story This story illustrates how important it is to write down you dreams and goals. If you do, you are much more likely to achieve them. And this woman didnt let any obstacle stand in her way. Children, illiteracy and an abusive relationship are all reasons to give up. But instead, Tererai got her doctorate!  Before Oprah ended her show, she donated $1.5 million to Trent to build a school in her home village, Trent’s next dream.  Now this woman is making a difference by changing other girls lives because she had the strength and motivation to change her life first.  AWESOME! Technology and Tyres Working for You!

Technology and Tyres Working for You! Modern technology has advanced in leaps and bounds in recent years, with computers getting smaller and more powerful, able to help us in ways that seemed impossible just a decade or so ago. Technological advances are helping big corporations and governments to operate smoothly, and they have found their way into every part of our lives, even into parts that would not seem obvious at first thought. This includes the world of driving, cars and even tyres â€" tyre alignment and wheel balancing can be done very precisely using computerised measurements, and some vehicles even come with internal CPUs that can help to diagnose performance issues. Mechanics and Technology Mechanics tasks that used to be done with judgement and by eye can now be perfected with computerised aids, ensuring that your vehicle is maintained in the best possible configuration to give you a smooth drive, with minimal wear and tear, and with the greatest fuel efficiency possible. Previously, mechanics had to learn the hard way, by making settings and then running the car, checking often to see if any signs of wear and tear were making themselves visible. This was often a time consuming and inexact job: and computers can now do it in seconds, often by communicating with the vehicles on-board computer! Everything is Online! And another way that technology has helped us all is by giving us the ease, speed and comfort of online shopping. Groceries can be chosen and paid for in about fifteen minutes at midnight, for delivery to your door the next day, and there is very little that cannot be bought online â€" from entire cars to replacement tyres when yours are too old or worn to be safely used any longer. If you want to order tyres online, get them from Jet Wheel Tyre and arrange their fitting at the same time. Wheel balancing is making sure that the weight of the vehicle is spread evenly over all four tyres, and using a computerised scale can help your mechanic to adjust this finely without needing to spend a lot of time on the job. Wheel alignment, ensuring that all four wheels point in the same direction is another job perfected with digital help, enabling mechanics to get your tyres in perfect sync. Finally, tyre rotation â€" the practice of swapping the four tyres around, usually back to front and left to right (so the back right tyre will be put onto the front right of the car) â€" can also be assessed on a microscopic scale, with the computer able to confirm the best configuration for the wear patterns on the tyres, or even making the recommendation that one or more tyres be replaced entirely. Time Saver This means that technology can not only help you buy your tyres without leaving your home, but that you save time until they are ready to be fitted, and you can pop in and get the work done promptly and efficiently, sending you back on your way before you know it! And, as if all that was not enough, your tyres will be in place, adjusted to optimal positioning and pressure, so you enjoy a smooth and comfortable drive: effortlessly.

Not All That Glitters is Gold Have you Checked the Financial Realities of Your Dream Job

Not All That Glitters is Gold â€" Have you Checked the Financial Realities of Your Dream Job When you spend a long time aspiring to get that dream job offer, it’s okay to let the fantasy run wild. As you compare companies and opportunities, it’s fine to get caught up in the prestige you’ll get, the fun you’ll have, and the money you’ll earn. But while your dream job is something that you should get excited about, it’s equally important to remember that dreams have a tendency to end. When you finally get the position you’ve been after, you’ll have to live day-to-day with the realities, not the fantasy. So how well do you really know the job you’re looking for? And, if you know the job, what can you do to solidify your understanding of the company you’ll be working for, their culture, and their all-important finances? Researching a company is about more than interview preparation Most of us know the old advice about preparing for a job interview â€" conduct extensive research into any companies you think you might want to work for and take every opportunity to show off your insight to the interviewers. Without a doubt, that’s good advice. You should always enjoy a period of the best kind of research, the type that tells you whether you’ll be able to work flexibly, the exciting people you’ll be working alongside, and the salary and benefits you can expect to take home. But even at this early stage, it can pay to research more widely into the financial standing of the companies you’re applying to. To truly understand the position you’re aiming for, you need to uncover the financial realities they might neglect to mention. The value of financial research into companies There are several free online services that will let you access company data, including the financial reports they are required by law to file. Even at the most basic level, these will tell you: How much money a company is bringing into the business How many expenses are being incurred â€" and if any of those debts are bad How much profit is left for shareholders, stakeholders, and the people that will ultimately need to be satisfied if a company is to survive Of course, this is just the start. Various reports unlock different pieces of information, allowing you to build up a complete picture of how companies work. It can also be useful to look at the bigger picture beyond a single company. Even if the specific business you’re dealing with looks fine, what about the rest of the industry? Are other companies from the same field growing year on year, or struggling to maintain their existing positions? Thinking about the future of your dream job Finally, it’s important to contemplate what the future may bring, beyond what a web search will tell you about today. In part, that may mean looking at the opportunities available within an organization. These may include training programs or structured channels of movement up the company. But just as you will change and evolve over the coming months and years, companies change too. Looking at current financial data and comparing it to similar reports from the past few years can help to highlight suggested trends and patterns. Small isn’t necessarily bad, but you need to discover whether you’re joining a company on the way up or boarding a sinking ship. And when you’re equipped with all the right information, you can make sure that the job you’ve been searching for really is a dream come true. Image by Sam Hames,

2 Sides of An Infographic Resume Content vs. Appearance

2 Sides of An Infographic Resume Content vs. Appearance Photo Credit â€" Pinterest.comThere has been a new trend with job seekers and we are not yet sure if we like it or not. We know that a lot of information is distributed through visuals, because our brains are more inclined to believe an image, than written content. It is important to check out the company you are applying at before using this style. Some companies are very old school and would probably prefer a fully written resume. When you want to find out information about a travel destination, you want information as well as some visual content. This is exactly why the infographic resumesseem to be growing in popularity.evalA lot of companies are accepting these types of resumes, as long as it is still professional and a not an art project. Here are some tips if you would like to move in this direction.1. Research the companyAs I mentioned, this is not for every company and some may see it as not being professional. Some companies believe that the traditional resume has a flow to i t that is easily understood. It may be that this is just too new of a trend for some companies and they might just need some more time. However, it is a great idea to do an infographic resume for your LinkedIn profile for example. It is simple and gives the potential employer a quick overview of your skills and achievements. You might want to keep a traditional copy handy and take both to the interview.A graphical resume is great for online use, but companies like Microsoft and Kodak seems to be against the use of infographic resumes.2. To the pointYou want to keep your infographic resume to the point and not include too many images. The idea is to share information in a quick and easy to read format. Yes, you may include some borders around your various sections, but it is important to not let it come across like a kindergarten project.Seeing as you only have so much space to work with, you really have to make it count. You will be more likely to communicate your unique skills in wri ting than to find the perfect image to communicate it.evalSummarize as much information as you can, so that it does not appear cluttered.3. ColorsIf you want your infographic resume to come across as a professional document, you might want to stay with 2 colors. Anything more than that might be a bit too flashy and distracting. Choosing a color scheme is also a good idea as long as the colors are pleasing to the eye. IChoosing a color scheme is also a good idea as long as the colors are pleasing to the eye. Eithergray and black, or baby blue and navy might look great, as opposed to bright pink and baby pink. The latter color combinationsdo not look professional. You want to be taken seriously and this is why we suggest a color scheme or simply sticking to 2 colors. If you are new to this and do not know where to start, hire a resume design service to help you out. This will take away a ton of your stress and it is worth the investment.evalMany infographic resumes do not change too mu ch, so you can use it for a few applications. Just be sure to update this resume along with your traditional resume if anything changes.4. Call to ActionYou might be so excited about your new resume design that you forget to add a call to action section. As with most writing, you need to advise the reader on what to do after they are done reading.Include a contact me section with clear details of how to get hold of you.Depending on what position you are applying for, you can be contacted via your LinkedIn profile, website, email or just a simple phone call. If you are at school all day and cannot accept any calls, you might want to be contacted via email. You have to actually think about it for a minute and only include the contact details where you can respond as quickly as possible.ConclusionIt is clear that an infographic resume needs to have a balance of visuals and content, leaning more towards content. You do not want to lose the essence of what you have achieved and have it re placed with a picture. The visual attraction is just to get attention and once you have it, you need to bring it to life in your content. The visual attraction is just to get attention and once you have it, you need to bring it to life in your content. This is why I advise you to hire someone to do it for you if you are not familiar with the format and rules of an infographic resume. There are definitely rules and it cannot just be a random page of information and pictures. I hope you use this format with caution. Who knows, you might strike it lucky on your first try.
